COT:

Let the pursuit of fitness goals drive your creativity and inventiveness, but don’t let ego push you too far past your limits or you risk injury. Look at the great Louie Simmons, legendary power lifter and founder of Westside Barbell. He revolutionized strength training because he let his goals drive his creativity—inventing new tools, methods, and machines when standard approaches failed. We have him to thank for the use of heavy chains and heavier bands, the belt squat and reverse hyper machines. But he also broke his back twice and tore his tendons off the bone because he let ego blind him to his absolute physical limits. Be inventive in how you pursue your strength, but be smart enough to survive the process.
