COT: The idea of “follow you passion” when it comes to work puts the cart before the horse. People that end up loving what they do learn to love it as they work at it over time. Also, they continue to get better and earn career capital and use that to improve their job functions, hours, independence, and income. Learning to be passionate about what you do is key to enjoying the time you need to spend away from your family and will make you more fulfilled and cherish the time you do have with your family. Take a look at “So Good They Can’t Ignore You,” by Cal Newport if you want to know more.

COT: 1 minute of mindful breathing. Reminder this is Make America Burpee Again/Burpee Back Better month, where we are falling down and getting back up together to raise awareness of the loneliness and isolation that many feel, especially these days. Having friends you don’t see or have a chance to connect with very often won’t protect you from this, so I’m glad I discovered F3 and I suspect it has helped all of us feel less lonely and isolated. My challenge this month is to look for others to whom I can introduce F3 to help alleviate some of those feelings.

In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.” Jeremiah 29:12-14 NLT

There isn’t any special ritual or process to pray. It’s simply a conversation with God.

Quote from Dan Crenshaw from his book Fortitude.

If you’re losing your cool, you are losing. If you are triggered, it is because you allowed someone else to dictate your emotional state. If you are outraged, it is because you lack discipline and self-control. These are personal defeats, not the fault of anyone else. And each defeat shapes who you are as a person, and in the collective sense, who we are as a people. This book is about actively hardening your mind so that you can be the person you think you should be. It is about identifying who that person is in the first place, and taking responsibility for the self-improvement required to become them. It is about learning what it means to never quit. It is about learning to take a joke and giving others some charity when they make a bad one. It is about the importance of building a society of iron-tough individuals who can think for themselves, take care of themselves, and recognize that a culture characterized by grit, discipline, and self-reliance is a culture that survives.
