Spicy Bearcrawl Beatdown

DATE: 2022-05-16
AO: Patriot
Q: Maj. Payne
PAX: CableGuy, Lucius, Bone, Legacy, Roadkill, Wedding Singer, Ice Tea, citrus, Booking, Landslide, Shake ‘N’ Bake FNGs: DRPAX Flamingo (F3 Cleveland)
COUNT: 13
As YHC determined what to do this morning, it became clear that the PAX had not been bear crawling nearly enough, so there was some fixin’ that needed to happen. Today’s challenge was to bear crawl a really long ways, potentially around the school. Here’s mostly how it went…

WARMUP: 5 penalty burpees for everyone, thanks to @Shake’N’Bake’s late arrival. Great way to get the blood pumping! Then mosey through the neighborhood for our one mile #monthlychallenge run. Finish up at the basketball court with 10 x SSH, 10 x Imperial Walkers, 10 x Willie Mays Hayes, and 10 x Copperhead Squats.

THE THANG: Count off by 2s and divide into teams. For today’s beatdown, there are three official positions: thrower, on-deck and in-the-hole. Each team gets a sandbag. The task is for rotating PAX “throwers” to clean the bag and throw it as far as possible. The “on-deck” PAX prepares to move forward once the bag is thrown to become the “thrower,” and the “in-the-hole” PAX moves forward to become “on-deck.” Everyone else bear crawls, with the “thrower” moving to the back of the pack once he completes his throw. Rotate until told otherwise by the Q, moving steadily around the school perimeter.

First “rest” stop: 20 x Merkins

Next “rest” stop: Grab a partner. P1 runs around the parking lot (approx 100m), P2 does LBCs. Rinse and repeat x 3.

It was at this time, the game changed due to Team 2’s sandbag rupturing and their load becoming slowly but surely lighter and lighter. It wasn’t really a race, but…well, life is a race, so it kinda was. They moved slightly ahead, but once in the atrium, it was time for another “rest stop.”

Next “rest” stop: In the atrium — 3 x (10 x step ups / 10 x Derkins)

With time dwindling, the PAX changed movement to sandbag shoulder carry for ten steps and lunge walking back to the basketball court. Once all PAX arrived to the court, mosey back to the football field for…

MARY: In rapid succession: 20 x flutter kicks, 10 x American Hammers in cadence, 10 x Freddie Mercuries in cadence, 20 x LBCs.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Bone-a-thon this upcoming weekend, see the #boneathon channel on Slack. the Murph is coming up on Monday, May 30 at GMU followed by the F3 picnic at Lake Accotink Park 11a-3p. $6 per PAX. BYOB and grill stuff.

COT: YHC read The Comfort Crisis by Michael Easter recently. In it, the author talks about the concept of toughening. Nietzsche said, “That which does not kill us makes us stronger.” On the flip side however, a lot of existing literature suggests that when a bad or stressful thing happens to us, it’s always bad. YHC rejects this, and instead prescribes to the concept of toughening. Of course, being overwhelmed by negative and stressful things all of the time isn’t good, but being too sheltered is bad too. In fact, an optimal amount of stress can actually lead to positive impacts. Confronting risk, fear and/or danger can lead to optimal stress and discomfort levels, which can in turn promote improved self-esteem, character building and psychological resilience. In short, our physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual well being requires us to move outside of our comfort zone and do hard things. So…embrace the suck. Look for those hard things that will ultimately lead you to a better place physically, mentally and spiritually.

We all come from different places in our spiritual journey, but it’s worth noting that the bible, James 1: 2-4, speaks of resilience as well: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

COT:
Exercise is king and nutrition is queen–put them together and you’ve got a kingdom.
The goal of the King is to constantly increase 3S2T: Speed, Strength, Stamina, Toughness (physical) and Toughness (mental). These are the aspects of a HIM’s physical kingdom that enable him to do the things he must do to be a Leader.
There is no best or only way to Accelerate 3S2T. But what is true for both men, and all men seeking to Accelerate, is that it works much better as a Group than as a Singleton .
It’s simple really. If you want to learn how to run faster, just find a faster man. And chase him until you catch him. @channel
