COT:

This morning’s magic number was clearly #17. It was designed to help PAX remember Proverbs 17:17, which reads, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”

This bible passage highlights love, and it’s important to precisely define what love is here. To YHC, it is the willingness to extend yourself for someone else’s growth. That is what F3 is al about. We all must love one another at all times so that we can help accelerate growth across the region. We must also be there to support each other especially in tones of adversity. No man can make it completely on his own. We must pull together and support each other when times get rough. That is how we will continue to grow and thrive!

Shake ‘n Bake (and Lungeball!)

AO: Patriot

QIC: Citrus

THE PAX: Bone, Cable Guy, Elvis, Fish Fry, Lazlo, Lucius, Maguire, Spokes, Wedding Singer, YHC

WARMUP: SSH, Hillbillies, IW, WMH, cherry pickers, Don Quixote, Downward Dog, scapular merkins

THE THANG:
Split up into two teams for some friendly competition (and I only say "friendly", because YHC went 0-5).

First challenge:
400 yard run, then chipper-style through the following:

  • 10 burpees
  • 20 sumo squats
  • 30 mountain climbers (IC)
  • 40 Shoulder taps (IC)
  • 50 SSH (IC)
  • 25 merkins

The entire team needs to finish the run before anyone starts the first exercise (burpees). For each exercise after the run, move on to the next exercise after two PAX complete all reps. Plank/Al Gore/pickup-the-6/whatever if your team finishes the challenge first. (h/t to…#freestate, I think)

Second challenge:
Lungeball! Half of a team stood on the goal line and the other half on the 5 yard line, facing each other. Lunge walk (half the team is doing forward lunges, half reverse) to the 50 yard line, throwing a ball to your teammates. Every time it hits the ground – burpee. Credit to Subprime/Horsepunch for this one.

Third challenge:
Same as first challenge, but Ricky Bobby the run.

Fourth challenge:
Same as third challenge, but add 3 squats to Ricky Bobby.

Fifth challenge:
Lungeball! This time, two balls per team. Twice the balls, twice the burpees!

MARY: Flutter kicks, LBCs, leg lift spelling

COT: My 16-year old son spent almost an hour telling me about an 8-book series that he’s reading, and he said I should check it out. I did, and I was surprised to find I am enjoying it – even better, we have something new to talk about that he enjoys. Find opportunities to try things that your family, friends, coworkers are excited about, that you otherwise wouldn’t. You may find something you enjoy, and regardless you will definitely strengthen your relationship.

The Road to the Final Four! F3theCapital Style!

AO: The Patriot

QIC: Maj Payne

The PAX: Spokes, Cable Guy, Lazlo, Lucius, Maguire, Citrus

Seven PAX rose from the fartsack on this Easter Monday and on the eve of the NCAA Basketball National Championship game to celebrate the day! Here’s what ensued as the gloom transformed into daylight.

WU: 20 x SSH, 15 x IW, 15 x WMH, 15 x Cherry Pickers
Move to the goal line for 10 yds of high knees down and back, then 30 yds side shuffle down and back, then 10 yds of inch worm down, mosey back, then 30 yds of carioca and back.

The Thang: Time to start the journey to the Final Four! As everyone knows, this really begins with the First Four games. Eight teams play for four slots. None could name any of the teams except for UCLA this year. No matter — this was not going to be a trivia lesson. The PAX honored those eight teams with 8 x burpees OYO. The road is a long and arduous one, and so the journey commenced with bear crawls up to the stadium entry gate. At the gate, the PAX recognized the round of 64 with 4 x 16 Merkins. Regular, Wide, Dry Dock and Diamond styles. Continuing onward via the lunge to the Round of 32 (at the end of the fenceline headed towards the high school). For the Round of 32, all PAX completed 32 x Jump Lunges, straight! YHC considered doing Bobby Hurleys, but since Duke didn’t even make the tournament this year, it was a big N.O. for Bobby Hurleys. Broad jumps followed en route to the basketball courts and the Sweet Sixteen. What else but Derkins could the PAX do for that? And so all knocked out 16 x Derkins to honor the sixteen teams that made it to this point. A short saunder took the PAX to the student parking area, where all completed 8 x Bodybuilders to honor the Elite 8. Excitement slowly built as the road to the final four was coming to its end, and the PAX crawl-beared to center court of the basketball court where all completed 4 x 4x4s (4 x Merkin followed immediately by 4 x Mountain climbers).

At this point, it was time to play for the National Championship! The PAX had to warm up for the game (even though they’d just completed their journey to the game — warm-ups are so important!), and after counting off by 2s, split into two teams that completed 5 x suicides: starting at their own end line, run to free throw line and back, to three-point line and back and finally to half court and back. Once warmed up for the game, it was time to play! One pax shoots at a time for each team and each PAX must take a turn shooting in rotation. PAX start at the end line, back pedal to half court and then choose whether to go for a three-point shot (for 3 points), free throw (for 2 points) or a lay-up (for 1 point). Each shooter gets two attempts to score. Once finished, mark score (or sometimes no score) with chalk on the sideline. All other PAX perform exercises as follows, changing exercises with each new shooter as he rotates in:
B – Burpees
A – Air Squats
S – Side Straddle Hops
K – Knerkins
E – Erkins
T – T-Merkins (hand release with hands going to T-position at bottom)
B – Big Boy Sit Ups
A – American Twists
L – LBCs
L – Lunges

It was a close game, but alas, no Jalen Suggs buzzer beaters performed by the crowd. Lucius scored a couple 2-point free throws, but otherwise it was all lay-ups for the 14-13 final score! Once finished, all claimed victory and the PAX returned back to the start point on the football field with a victory mosey to finish up with….

Mary: 25 x Flutter Kicks. The workout could not be complete without them!

COT: Like the Road to the Final Four, life is a journey. It has upsets, bumps, bruises, but also cheers, excitement and victories! It’s up to us to find the ways to make it more exciting, and having fun along the way helps make it so much better. Now let’s all go out into the world today to figure out how we can make our days better for those around us as we challenge ourselves to be better husbands, fathers, sons and friends.
