COT: We stand on the shoulders of giants, not only of great people like the President we remember today, who have come before us but also on those whom we call saints: a parent, friend, teacher, and mentor. Sometimes it seems our lives, our country our world can’t get any worse. Take comfort that those before us faced similar or more difficult struggles and somehow prevailed. While each of may feel there is noting we can individually contribute, let us remember that our God given strengths and talents with acquired skills and experiences do have meaning and purpose. They may be used to make commitments to our spouse, friends, community and country. To be kind and generous with our time, money and presence. To remain principled with a sense of justice and fairness towards other. To love one another and ourselves and be better neighbors. Let us deport ourselves so others think of us as the next generation of giants upon which they can stand.
