COT: Short Story.
There once was a student and a Master who were hiking up a mountain for martial arts training – the tallest there ever was.
When the got to the top, the student said:
“Master, it is so beautiful up here!”
The Master slapped the student, and they headed down the mountain, never going back up again.
Later on, the student asks “Master, why did you slap me? What did I do?”
Master replies: “You said the Mountain was beautiful, and in doing so, you limited its significance.”
There are words, labels, and identities in our lives of which we impose upon objects, events, and peoples. And by imposing a meaning, you limit not only in definition, but also in yourself. Your world view.
There is a lot of labeling in this world, and many things transcend perceivable definitions. In my twenties, I recognize the value of words, and am working on imposing limitations on things as to unintentionally restrict their significance.
