The PAX set out to commemorate Operation Market Garden, which began on Sept. 17, 1944. This operation attempted to take and hold 9 Dutch bridges, so that Allied Armor could cross the Rhine into Germany. Ultimately, this proved to be a bridge too far.

WARM-UP:
Roving warm-up included Moseying, SSH, Windmills, LBACs, Michael Phelps, Moroccan Night Clubs, Downward Dog, Cobra Kai, Child’s Pose. Burpees for new arrivals and WWI trivia. Thanks to Coconuts’ airborne knowledge, PAX did fewer burpees than anticipated.

THE THANG:
Operation Market:
To commemorate each airborne unit in action during operation Market Garden, PAX performed:

– 1 Burpee for the 1st Airborne Division (British)
– 1 Burpee for the 1st Independent Parachute Brigade (Polish)
– 101 “Screaming Eagle” CB exercises for the 101st Airborne Division (US), split between 41x Curl to Overhead Press (4 count); 30x Low Rows (IC); 30x Atlas Shrugs (SC) – 82 “All American” jump squats for the 82nd Airborne Division (US)

Operation Garden:
To commemorate the XXX Corps advance toward the Rhine, PAX performed 9x: – 10-yard bear crawl;
– 10x Bridge;
– 10 x Alternating Shoulder taps.

After passing Eindhoven and Nijmegen, PAX reached the Rhine in Arnhem. The Bridge remained in German hands. 8,000 troops from the British 1st Airborne (out of 12,000 total) are captured, killed, or lost. PAX performed: – 10-yd broad jump
– 100x Air press
– 30x Boat Canoes

Operation Market-Garden did not achieve its objective due to a complicated plan, logistical challenges, and faulty intelligence (which had overlooked SS Panzer divisions in the area). This reminds us that when developing plans, keep it simple. And that, in the words of Mike Tyson, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.
