Strategy Game at the Farm

AO: The Farm

QIC: Infinity

The PAX: Chile, Running Man, Buzz, Cadence, and Dictator.

WarmUp: 20 SSHs IC, 10 Don Quixote, 10 Cherry Pickers IC, 10 Michael Phelps IC, 15 Little Bitty Arm Circles w/raised leg IC,15 Merkins, 15 Mountain Climbers IC, 5 IT Band Stretches each side IC, and 300m mosey.

The Thang:

Strategy Game: divide up the PAX into two teams.

Each team will run the same course, but decide which and how many exercises they will be doing throughout the workout.

The objective is to accumulate all the coupons first.

There are four stations, 50m apart, at which the teams will obtain one coupon after completing their choice of “Payment” exercises. There will be a one coupon for each team at each station.

To travel to each station, the teams will choose among the following “Traveling” exercises (keep in mind that after station 1, there will be coupons involved):

  1. Walking Lunges

  2. Backward Run

  3. Bear Crawl

  4. Crab Walk

At each station, the teams will choose among the following “Payment” exercises (done without coupons):

  1. HRR Merkins

  2. Squats

  3. Big Boi Sit-ups

  4. Burpees

For these “Payment” exercises, the teams will allocate the following reps (each rep must be used only once):

  1. 10

  2. 20

  3. 30

  4. 40

The teams must agree on the choice of “Traveling” exercises, “Payment” exercises, and the allocation of reps to those “Payment” exercises.

The first team to obtain all four of its coupons is the winner.

Nex, we ran back through the stations (w/o coupons), stopping at each one to execute 1-2 exercises as follows: 20 SSHs IC, 15 Jump Squats, 10 Break Dancers IC, 10 Banana roll-over to Supermans, 10 Sweat Angels IC, 10 Cup Checks IC, 20 Flutter Kicks IC.

Observations: The difference between strategy and skill is that skill pertains to how well someone does something, whereas strategy is optimization of those skills and other things to bring about success. This workout incorporated both skill and strategy. Gold team ended up winning, thanks to Chile’s wise choices of workouts and reps, but both teams won in getting a good workout. A workout that received a thumbs up from Dictator!

CoT:

After Thursday morning’s workout, I forgot to recover our shovel flag, and I failed to realize this mistake until 5pm the next day. When I arrived, I found the shovel flag standing where it is now.

I was very grateful to see it standing there. I am very thankful for the respect and honesty in others that kept it there. I shared the following quote, and then we prayed:

“As I have said, the first thing is to be honest with yourself. You can never have an impact on society if you have not changed yourself. Great peacemakers are all people of integrity, of honesty, but humility.” Nelson Mandela.

Ultimate Frisbee at the Farm

AO: The Farm

QIC: Infinity

The PAX: Chile, Running Man, Buzz, Cadence, Grease Monkey, Dictator (FNG), and Sourdough (FNG).

WarmUp: 20 SSHs IC, 10 Don Quixote, 10 Cherry Pickers IC, 10 Michael Phelps IC, 10 Willy Mays Hayes IC, 5 IT Band Stretches each side IC, and 300m mosey.

The Thang:

Went over the basics of frisbee throwing and catching.

Split up into two teams for Ultimate Frisbee!

3 burpees every time your team’s disc hits the ground

Every time one team scores, they get to choose the intermission exercise

2.0’s under the age of 15 get to take 10 steps while holding the frisbee

Observations: There were some great plays and some great blunders out there. Everyone was part of both—there was no perfection, nor absolute failure to perform. The most important thing is that YHC got in lots of burpees and had fun.

CoT:

You’ve heard me say before that athletes eat and train, they don’t diet and exercise. In like manner, it’s not what you do some of the time, but what you do most of the time that matters when it comes to health and fitness. Go ahead and indulge today guilt-free, but know that you will be back at it the next day.

We closed with a quote that really uplifted me last night when I was in a down mood: “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.” – Melody Beattie

Give Thanks

CIRCLE OF TRUST:
2020 has been a difficult year, but despite it all there is still much to be thankful for. I’m personally thankful for the health of me and my family. I’m thankful for the extra time I’ve been able to spend with my family this year, even if 10-20% of the time I’m not. I’m thankful for the vaccines that will help us get back to something more closely resembling normal soon. And I’m very thankful I get to come out here and challenge myself with this group. Happy Thanksgiving!
