FARA is a DC area non-profit dedicated to the pursuit of scientific research leading to treatments and a cure for Friedreich’s Ataxia, a debilitating, life-shortening, degenerative neuromuscular disorder. About one in 50,000 people in the United States has Friedreich’s Ataxia. It is estimated there are 4,000 individuals affected with FA in the U.S., and 15,000 affected individuals worldwide.

In 2024, our own Dungeon Master’s daughter Mayme was diagnosed with Friedreich’s Ataxia.
FARA’s Mission is to marshal and focus the resources and relationships needed to cure FA by raising funds for research, promoting public awareness, and aligning scientists, patients, clinicians, government agencies, pharmaceutical companies and other organizations dedicated to curing FA and related diseases. Each year, F3 The Capital Region gives the proceeds from its Super Bowl Squares Fundraiser to a deserving charity.
