horizon-ao A Festivus for the Rest of Us!

Date: 2024-12-16
AO: horizon-ao
Q: 2 percent
PAX: Magoo, Mulligan, vplaxico, Attache’, Poe, sticks, 3 mile, Kodiak, Disco, Groundhog FNGs: None
COUNT: 11
WARMUP: SSH; Imperial Walkers; Hill Billy’s; Itty Bitty Arm Circles; Moroccan Nightclubs; Don Quixotes; Willie Mays Hays; Michael Phelps; Downward Dog; World’s Greatest Stretch.

THE THANG: After a brief fellowship lap the PAX gathered around the circle at the 50 yard line to learn the true meaning of Festivus: a non-denominational holiday filled with one sided ridicule and mindless physical tests of strength. Also, there was an aluminum pole. • The tradition of Festivus began with the Airing of Grievances:
The QIC had a lot of problems with a select few PAX, and now they were going to hear about it! The QIC barked the ways in which they had disappointed him over the past year. After each name was read, and an appropriate insult hurled, one Merkin was performed collectively by the group. – As Festivus rolled on, we came to the Feats of Strength:
PAX lined up in pairs on the 50-yard line. Each team took turns carrying the Festivus pole to the goal line while the other team member did a high knee, jubilant skip alongside of him. Switching positions at the goal line. The remaining PAX performed a number of exercises while waiting their turns: Mountain Climbers, Star Jumps, LBC’s, Heisman Shuffle, Bonnie Blair’s
• Headed over to the pull up bars – 2 rounds, max reps each, while remaining PAX performed o Soccer kicks
o Peter Parkers
o Freddie Mercuries
o Dips
o Break Dancers
• Short mosey to the bike racks, aka Bear Crawl arches where we…well….Bear crawled under the bike racks. • 2 rounds of 10 Upper Deckers, 20 Derkins, 20 Bulgarian Split Squats • 1 round of 40 Dips

MARY: Flutter kicks, J-Lo’s, Alabama Prom Dates, Nolan Ryans

ANNOUNCEMENTS: The ARC is coming. Sadly, we are discontinuing the 12-hour Ruck option this year because too many people died last year.

COT: No matter what holiday you celebrate, real, fictitious, or nothing at all….I wish all of you and your families a safe and happy December and a joyous New Year.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Firehead to Q on Wednesday

COT:

My wife and I took a tour of the Naval Academy this weekend in Annapolis. The tour was fire – definitely recommend if you are ever in the area! Like many campuses, the USNA is full of buildings named after key donors. Our tour guide mentioned, however, that one of their biggest donors was Ross Perot. Many buildings were built with the donations he made to the university. However, none are named after him. Mr. Perot insisted that his name not be used, stating that a donation/gift is not really a gift if public acknowledgment is expected in return. When our guide said this, it reminded me of Matthew 6:1-4 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them.” “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets.” “But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.”

ANNOUNCEMENTS: If someone wants to Q on Christmas (which is on December 25th this year…..:man-shrugging:) then reach out to Strange Brew. Boardwalk and Summit co-Qing birthday beatdown on Friday….a couple of respect guys with some stuff to prove perhaps.

COT:
YHC kicking off birthday week..turning 55 on Friday. Beatdown including lots of variations of 5’s and 55.

In the Hebrew alphabet the letter Hei (ה) has the meaning of God’s Grace as it is shaped like an open hand. The number 55 means double grace according to some Biblical scholars.

As YHC embarks on this milestone….blessed by the gift of double Grace and the ability to continue to make changes in life particularly regarding parenting adult children and the transition to peer/friendship. Looking forward to the next 30 years!

Thanks to the PAX for joining this morning. YHC is blessed by this group.

acropolis Card Games

Date: 2024-12-16
AO: acropolis
Q: Pumpernickel
PAX: Sunny, Hightower, Atlas, Doodles
FNGs: None
COUNT: 5
5 strong for a surprisingly warm and clear mid-December morning.
WARMUP: SSH, Various Stretches, fellowship mosey over to the magical land of benches and ledges by the front of the school.
THE THANG: We used the F3 deck of cards to play a modified version of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cucumber_(card_game). Each pax was dealt a hand of 6 cards. We played 5 rounds in the following fashion: 1. First person plays any card from their hand
2. Next person has to play a card of equal or higher number (suit doesn’t matter)
3. If you can’t equal or beat the number, you must play the lowest card in your hand
4. The person who played the highest card gives the cadence and number of exercises for every exercise in the pile. 5. Start over, the person who just led the exercises plays the first card.
We played through 25 cards from the deck in that way with various merkins, squats, core exercises, and a little bit of sprinting around the courtyard.
MARY: Core exercises were throughout, but to close it out, the last card in your hand doesn’t get played, but becomes the number of burpees you must do. That’s why you don’t want to have to play your lowest card. Fellowship jog back to the parking lot for COT
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Christmas and New Year’s coming up, Wreath clean up (someone post details here if you remember)
COT: YHC shared his favorite proverb that spoke to him in the past, Proverbs 6:6. “Go to the ant, you sluggard, learn its ways, and become wise.” As a lazy person I found a lot of benefit from studying the ant.
1. Ants are always moving. Physical movement isn’t just good for your body, it helps improve your character.
2. Ants are never going by themselves but always following another ant and leading another ant behind them.
3. Ants are small and humble creatures. Don’t think a task is too small for you to do, but just do the work that’s in front of you even if it’s humble and lowly.
